TAPAJOS NATIONAL FOREST SANTARÉM, BRAZIL Trek through a swathe of unspoiled Amazon rainforest today, under the expert guidance of a naturalist. Tapajos National Forest is an eden, an hour from Santarém. This bird-watcher’s dream boasts approximately 300 bird species, including the giant harpy eagle and golden parakeet. Bright colours and distinctive calls are part of the display, and dappled sunlight falls on a leafy forest floor. Fascinating leaf ants and ghost moths reveal their odd camouflaging and tortoises, sloths and anteaters may be spotted under the canopy.
