WHERE WATERS MEET MANAUS, BRAZIL The ‘ Meeting of the Waters ’ on the Amazon River occurs about eight miles from Manaus, when the ‘ white ’ Rio Solimões meets the ‘ black ’ Rio Negro. The Amazon River is formed at the point these two rivers join together. As you cruise along, you can see that their density is so different that they will not mix for several miles. Back on shore, treat your palate to flavours that do blend well. Brazilians use fruits and berries in many ways, especially the famed açaí , from juices to flavourings for ice cream, which you can sample at bustling food markets in the larger villages.
