You come to ‘the Eternal City’ with a list of
must-sees, but it disappears as quickly as suppli
(fried rice balls) eaten on a sidewalk as you
wrap your head around the dolce vita of Rome.
Heading off, you find yourself atop the Spanish
Steps, happy throngs below, ancient streetscapes
in every direction. You descend the 135 steps, from
the Trinità dei Monti church to the Piazza di Spagna,

almost 300 years. A mix of exhilaration and release
envelops you as you depart the piazza, happy to
let the spirit of Rome take the reins.
