Dubrovnik tantalizes the senses in so many unique ways. Church bells call out to the faithful, talented buskers layer the air with beautiful tunes and the call of seabirds may be heard as background to the constant buzz of people. The air is fragrant with the scent of the ocean. Known as the “Pearl of the Adriatic” the city keeps to a color scheme of natural hues; limestone and terracotta are pearlescent in the sun and an occasional splash of green is dotted about. From various viewpoints you can admire the lush hills against which Dubrovnik nestles, and the sweeping vistas over the Adriatic Sea — azure against the fortress. Whether you hear the theme song for Game of Thrones as you stare out over ‘Kings Landing’ (wondering if the Mother of Dragons will fly in from the west), or if you prefer to envisage the ghosts of medieval raiders shrieking their war cries as they let fly with fiery arrows, you will find a story whispered to you — on whichever part of the wall you stand. Michele Wright’s love of writing began at the age of 12 when her grandfather gave her a typewriter. Discovering the world was a fascinating place, she started merging her twin passions — writing and travel. Michele lives in Hampshire with her husband and teenage sons and works in marketing at Regent Seven Seas Cruises.
