BINHAI ROAD, ZHONGSHAN SQUARE DALIAN, CHINA Long one of China’s most heavily developed industrial areas and center of international shipping, Dalian underwent significant “greening” in the 1990s and has become a go-to destination for domestic tourists drawn to a variety of man-made attractions. Ride the 20-mile-long Binhai Road for verdant forest and coastal panoramas. Take in the grandness of Zhongshan Square, Dalian’s hub, that was designed in 1889 and features historic structures built by the Japanese in the early 20th century. Choose from a cluster of impressive beaches, including the wildly popular Fujiazhuang and Xinghai Bay. Head to the southern tip of Liaodong Peninsula for the war relics, colonial buildings and monuments of Lushun.
