NEW THE PEARL OF HARDANGER ULVIK (HARDANGERFJORD), NORWAY It’s hard to imagine a more sublime setting than the glistening fjords, majestic mountains and sweet-smelling fruit orchards of this idyllic Norwegian village. Ulvik is reached via the Hardangerfjord, which stretches 111 miles from the Atlantic Ocean into the mountainous interior of Norway along the Hardangervidda plateau, making it one of the country’s longest and most beloved fjords. Called the “Pearl of Hardanger,” Ulvik is perhaps best known for its fruit and cider farms, which you may visit on a guided tour. A walk through the small village will lead you to Ulvik Church, consecrated in 1859 and featuring both a remarkably preserved exterior and a 100-year-old rose painting encircling its altar. For an up-close fjord experience, set out on a kayak.
