BY TERRY WARD

Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, Leon Miller is one of the best loved bartenders in the British Virgin Islands. And during a port of call on the beautiful island of Jost Van Dyke, you’ll most likely find him bantering behind the bar, slinging Painkillers (the must-have cocktail in these parts) and spreading good vibes at Soggy Dollar Bar — one of the most iconic

beach bars in all of the Caribbean. Wondering what’s in a Painkiller? The

refreshing (and notoriously strong) cocktail is made with pineapple juice, orange juice, dark rum and a splash of coconut cream — then garnished with fresh nutmeg on top. The drink is said to have been invented at the Soggy Dollar, even while its fame has spread to points far beyond these tropical isles. Come to mingle with yachties, tourists and locals at this legendary bar that calls itself a “sunny place for shady people” and was named for the wet bills that sailors come ashore with to pay o« their bar tabs.
