And who better to explore the great outdoors with than man’s (or woman’s) best friend? I am fond of these four- legged balls of fur — having two rescues of my own — but growing up in upstate New York, my first love was my neighbor’s Newfie. He was bigger than she was, and never was there a gentler creature with such soulful eyes, always there to help you lick a popsicle on a summer’s day or romp in the snow in winter. Enjoy a little history of this beloved breed and its origins. You’ll also enjoy reading about some of the most beautiful destinations in Canada. Nova Scotia’s Cape Breton Island offers a cornucopia of ways to absorb the natural scenes and cultural heritage of this Celtic- rooted corner of the Americas.
