GATEWAY TO THE SACRED SURABAYA, INDONESIA
Immerse yourself in the history of east Java at Trowulan Mojekerto, the former capital of the kingdom. It is the only site in Indonesia from the Hindu-Buddha classical age that ended in the early 16th century. While browsing excavated artefacts in the Trowulan Museum, you can expect to see reliefs of deities, water spouts shaped like human figures, ancient coins and carved pedestals. You will also see the remains of the 14th-century Bajang Ratu gateway, which stands in the nearby hamlet of Kraton. Built of red brick and volcanic stone, the gateway was once connected to a wall that protected a sacred building.
